GMS Cares Volunteers Support Denver Urban Gardens
DENVER, Colorado—August 25, 2025 — Employees from GMS’ Denver, Colorado office spent the day volunteering for Denver Urban Gardens (DUG) at Hinkley High School.
The volunteer team rolled up their sleeves for a hands-on day of garden revitalization at Hinkley High School Community Garden. Their efforts focused on essential upkeep and seasonal preparation, including pulling invasive weeds, laying fresh mulch to support new plantings, watering blueberry bushes, and tidying up garden beds. These contributions not only enhanced the garden’s appearance but also helped create a thriving space for future growth and community engagement.
About Denver Urban Gardens
DUG was formally incorporated as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization in 1985 to support Denver residents in creating sustainable, food-producing neighborhood community gardens. Over the past 40 years, their network of community gardens has expanded across six metro Denver counties. DUG currently oversees 200 community gardens, including 66 school-based community gardens, and 24 food forests.
In addition to their gardens, DUG programs provide access, skills, and resources to help people grow food in communities and regenerate urban green space. They offer youth programming, skill-building workshops for adults, community-centered events, volunteer workdays, free and reduced-cost seeds and seedlings, and compost training.
There are various ways to get involved by volunteering, donating, adopting a garden, attending events, and more!
